MIAMI, FL – The Pallas Foundation is excited to announce a $16,000 Mullen scholarship to two outstanding students at Florida International University’s (FIU) Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs. These scholarships, part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to foster the education of the next-generation of national security leaders, will provide vital financial support to students pursuing careers in international relations, national security, and diplomacy.
Liany Diaz, a first-generation college student and Cuban American, is a junior studying International Relations and a fellow of the Intelligence Community Centers for Academic Excellence (IC-CAE) program at FIU’s Jack D. Gordon Institute of Public Policy. Diaz expressed her gratitude for the scholarship, noting that it will allow her to focus on her studies and pursue unpaid internships without the burden of additional student loans. “This scholarship will allow me to participate in opportunities previously out of my reach and help me build my resume and career in national security,” said Diaz.
Miguel, a proud son of Nicaraguan refugees and a junior at FIU’s Honors College, is pursuing dual degrees in International Relations and Political Science. He aspires to work in the intelligence community or as a Foreign Service Officer. “This scholarship will relieve my financial burdens and allow me to focus on my studies and fellowship program,” said Miguel. “I am deeply thankful for this opportunity and for the belief that the donor [Pallas Foundation] has placed in my future.”
Sue Gordon, President of the Pallas Foundation’s Board of Directors, emphasized the importance of supporting diverse students pursuing careers in national security: “It is essential to cultivate the talent and leadership of young individuals like Liany and Miguel, who are passionate about shaping the future of our country’s security. By investing in their education and professional development, we are not only supporting their personal aspirations but also building a stronger, more inclusive national security community.”
The scholarships are awarded to students at FIU’s Green School of International and Public Affairs, with a focus on academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to public service. FIU’s partnership with the Pallas Foundation underscores the Foundation’s mission to promote inclusive leadership and broaden access in national security and international affairs.
